Résumé

Developmental Evaluation involves real time feedback about what is emerging in complex dynamic systems as innovators seek to bring about systems change. Participants will learn the unique niche of developmental evaluation and what perspectives such as Systems Thinking and Complex Nonlinear Dynamics can offer for alternative evaluation approaches.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from the world’s leading developmental evaluation theorist and writer as well as engage in facilitated pragmatic, hands-on application of developmental evaluation’s concepts. The combination of theoretical and experiential learning will ensure the knowledge gained by participants about developmental evaluation can be more easily applied in real world contexts. Participants will also experience a highly innovative form of workshop delivery, with the combined on-line / webinar and face-to-face modes being used.

Michael Quinn Patton will present via videoconference, with Kate as onsite facilitator.

• Key factors in deciding whether to undertake a developmental evaluation
• Niche, strengths, and limitations of developmental evaluations
• Common barriers to engaging in developmental evaluations and how to overcome those barriers

Animateurs

Kate McKegg is a founding member of the Aotearoa New Zealand Evaluation Association (ANZEA), and is the current president. She has specialist skills in policy and programme evaluation, evaluation capacity building, research, teaching, training and facilitation. She has 20 years applying these skills in many sectors, including environment, education, health, social development, Māori and indigenous development, sport, broadcasting, employment and housing.

Kate has a unique blend of grounded evaluation, research and policy experience, coupled with a strong theoretical grounding in social, political and evaluation theory.   Kate has implemented several developmental evaluations, winning the 2013 Australasian Evaluation Society Award for best evaluation policy and systems for a developmental evaluation of an indigenous sport and recreation programme.

Michael Quinn Patton is a world renowned organizational development and evaluation consultant and author of “Utilization Focused Evaluation”. He is also the author of the very popular “Developmental Evaluation: Applying Complexity Concepts to Enhance Innovation and Use” (Guilford Press, 2010); and more recently co-edited the book “Developmental Evaluation Exemplars” with Kate McKegg and Nan Wehipeihana. Michael will join the session on-line.
